Exercising,The Manly Way

Warming up

What a great way to spend a Saturday. Wish I was 20 years younger because even at 40+… yes, maybe even 50+… I would have wanted to join in. Rain in the air but still pleasantly warm and my ideal place to be……by the sea with fantastic surf. Again wanted to join in till I was informed  that if a helicopter appeared then its function was to scare away………..the sharks! Don’t think I would have been so keen to have a go at surfing in that case!

Took the shuttle bus into town, rendezvoused with Blair at the now “local hostelry, the Beir Kellar” and then lunched at a little organic café where Blair had his açai smoothie (particular kind of berry) and I had a salad bowl - a bit like the states - meant for 3 people!

In action

We then crossed over onto the beach where everyone was gathered for the Volleyball tournament.  Folks in pairs and play a “round robin” of 4 games, results collated and everyone placed in league according to results. Met a number of Blair’s friends and spent the afternoon watching Blair and Sam playing as well as Allie and her partner Foster? …..all looked extremely fit and professional. Christina joined us later in the afternoon as she had been playing football. It is a very healthy but obviously enjoyable lifestyle!

The atmosphere was just great, relaxing but all teams wanting to win and yet just enjoying participating. Lots of gorgeous girls…….. I can say that! A possible factor in Blair taking Beach Volleyball lessons?

The surf behind was superb and some  talented people  riding the waves very expertly. Just before close of play  a heavy downpour sent most folks scurrying to a shelter above the beach…we just got very wet!

The “Manly  Magnificants” Blair, Allie, Christina and Eve  and the “mum” adjourned to a local hostelry, Charlie’s Bar (very much my contemporary taste) for a few beers and to dry out and followed by a great meal in a highly recommended restaurant ….literally straight across from where I will be staying  from tomorrow! Scouse Keiron joined us and the chat was fun within a background of guitar music.  Thanks guys for such a great day and for making me feel so welcome!  Allie you promised pancakes for all at 10.00am tomorrow after your 2 hour swim/run!

Well done!

Blair's laid back approach to refereeing!
