Walking Coastal Sydney

The whole area around Sydney and surrounding coasts is extremely well laid out with coastal walks traversing rugged headlands, sweeping beaches, lagoons, bushland, bays and harbours. Each area gives detail and clear maps of the walks with an indication of time, distance and whether flat or otherwise. Most are meant for Joe Bloggs and families rather than serious hillwalkers. The views are just outstanding in this part of the world. There are several loop walks, including the bushland circular tracks through Manly Dam Reserve and around Manly and Curl Curl Lagoons.

Today I went down The Corso to Manly Wharf and round Manly Cove, passed Blair’s apartment in Lauderdale Ave and on a little further to North Harbour. It was really hot so rather than do the four hour walk to Spit Bridge and  same back again I just turned round and returned to the apartment for beach gear and then went on out in the other direction to Shelly Beach for a couple of hours reading and some swimming – swiftly becoming my favourite beach.

Andrew and Eunice I know that you were in Manly  but don’t know if you did any of the coastal walks?  I think this would be a great area for you to lead the local Walking Group so am volunteering my services to be your organising tour operator, guide  and chief bag carrier! I know they would love it!

  2. Do you think this is sufficient to get Jim here? I know he would love it except maybe for the heat!
